Tangyuan is a traditional Chinese snack eaten during the Chinese Lantern Festival. The Lantern Festival is celebrated on the 15th day of the first lunar month symbolizing unity and perfection. Although tang yuan is mostly associated with the Lantern Festival, it is a snack that can be enjoyed all year long. Tangyuan is made from glutinous rice flour mixed with a small amount of water to form balls and is then cooked and served in boiling water or sweet syrup. Over the years, this traditional dessert now comes in a wide variety of colors and fillings to satisfy both sweet and savory tastes.
